My first house guest

This week, I have been busy hosting my first house guest. My friend is here from Israel and he brought me a wicked house warming gift:

Israeli themed coasters and hot pot trivet

I also had my first cooking party in my kitchen:

Chopping up a storm

and the final product:

shakshuka

All in all, it feels like an Israeli sort of week! Try making shakshuka yourself: So yum and easy!

Wallpaper for floors?

I am finding rug shopping to be a major pain-  there are too many options. I am typically very good at making fast decisions however this one has me perplexed:

I found this amazing article ( thanks Eric) about area rugs. Take a look:

Area rugs are important because they ground a room, protect your floor and add interest and texture to a space. However, it can sometimes be a little bit tricky to size 'em right. Luckily, we've come up with some rug rules to live by to ensure that your room's properly covered!

Standard Living Room

e.g. average-size rooms with three or four closed off walls
  • Your rug should cover the entirety of the room save for a 12-inch band around its perimeter (see below). This way, the rug will leave the hardwood partially exposed, but be close enough to the walls so as to anchor the furniture.
  • Don't choose a small area rug that just sits under the coffee table. This will make the room appear smaller and do nothing to complement the furniture.

Great Room/Loft

e.g. loft-style spaces without walls or with just one wall
  • In an open-concept space, it's the furniture that dictates the scale of the area rug. All furniture should have a minimum of two feet resting on the rug (e.g. the two front legs of the sofa or side tables).
  • There are no precise measurements here; just be sure that each piece has its place on the rug. This will prevent the furniture from looking like it's floating in space.

Splash

A few people were inquiring about the new pillows featured in the last post. Here are some close ups of the cushions that are living on my sofa. I wanted to incorporate tons of colour :

Under $30 from Urban Barn- Loved Purple and I was going to use it as my sole accent colour.

Owls are the trend for bird inspired decor. I loved this little guy. Also from Urban Barn $29.99

I had also thought of doing green as an accent colour- so why not one of each
